American Recovery Service Inc. Helps Women & Children Recover at the Lighthouse
August 2010 - Tom Baxter, CEO of American Recovery Service Inc (ARSI) in Thousand Oaks and a team of ARSI employees visited the Lighthouse, after which Mr. Baxter wrote, "We were all very touched by the scale of the humanitarian mission your organization has undertaken and the high level of commitment and dedication we observed from all your staff." After the tour, ARSI donated $15,000 and ARSI employees donated more than $2,500 in food, clothing, and supplies. Ventura County Sees the Need for More Year-Round Homeless Services
March 2010 - Tami Contreras, 48, said she’s come up empty for two months. She said she turned to Lighthouse after her hours dropped dramatically at the hospital where she worked as a food service employee.
She bounced from a rented room in Ventura to a motel room to a friend’s couch. Her only income is $200 a month in food stamps, but at least the shelter gives her a place to stay, she said.
“By the grace of God,” she said, “I got a bed.” Read the VC Star article

January 2010 - As part of the annual MLK Day of Service, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Xi Kappa Omega Chapter, set up a table outside of Von's grocery store in Oxnard and asked members of the community to donate non-perishable food items to benefit the Lighthouse Women & Children Mission's Emergency Shelter in Oxnard. Despite a weak economy and rainy weather, individuals still donated to the cause by providing bags, boxes, and in one case an entire shopping cart filled with food items. Read the full story...
